Strategic prayer for a Disciple Making Movement

Day 4

Our Treasure in Jesus

God, we love you! As your Church, help us do what it takes to let the people of Tunisia grasp the Good News that Jesus’ cross was the one place in the world’s history in which your Father’s justice AND mercy were simultaneously fulfilled as He was marred beyond human semblance, despised, rejected, sorrowful, acquainted with grief, smitten, afflicted, pierced, crushed, chastised, and anguished (Isaiah 52-53) so that WE don’t have to be.

Pray for a Tunisian Believer

M is a 74 year old woman. She has 3 grown children and is divorced. She has walked with the Lord faithfully for several years. Her children recently found out that she is a Christian and have broken their relationship with her. Pray that God will soften their hearts and that M will have an opportunity to share why she decided to follow Jesus. Pray they would see the fruit of the Spirit in her life and would want the same thing for themselves.

Prayer for Boldness

“Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good.” (Jeremiah 10:5 ESV).

May the idols of culture in Tunisia be revealed for the unspeaking, unmoving frauds that they are, and may the church have the clarity and wisdom to address idolatry in all of its forms. (Jeremiah 10:5) Lord God, would you grant believers in Tunisia humility, gentleness, and discernment as they fight idolatry in community.

Pray for a Segment of Society

Sub-Saharan migrants – Can you ever really “wake up” if you haven’t actually slept? “This is better than the street,” Hyatt tried to console herself as her young daughter turned over between her and her husband. When one moved, everyone needed to reposition themselves in the tiny bed. She drew her four-year-old boy in closer as she heard the echoes of a pre-dawn quarrel upstairs, where the unmarried men were packed into their designated areas. She could hear the Touareg family clamouring around in the next room, the Eritreans using the bathroom. No lights on yet meant it was likely going to be another day without electricity. Three families in one small apartment was tight… Hyatt closed her eyes again, but sleep was a futile quest. What flashback would haunt her today? Her idyllic Sudanese childhood collapsing around her in bloody village raid? Years in refugee camps? The walking? The frightening nocturnal boat ride across the Mediterranean? The coast guard arresting all of them and bringing her family to Tunis? Or maybe it will be the vulgar insults hurled at them daily by the local Arab population? Where will we go? What will we do? Those two questions played in a loop in her mind. Hyatt’s dark eyes opened abruptly as she remembered what day it was. The Christians will be visiting today, she thought with a half smile. There would be crafts and laughter and someone would encourage them… “Even if no one else sees you or accepts you, you are accepted and loved by God,” one woman had told their group of women from all over sub-Saharan Africa. Pray for Hyatt and the many refugee families that are passing through or stuck in Tunisia, that they would encounter the living Christ and be given true safety, refuge, belonging, and purpose in Him.
