Our Treasure in Jesus

God, we love you! As your Church, help us do what it takes to let the people of Tunisia grasp the Good News that we are one body IN Christ! (Romans 12:5)

Pray for a Tunisian Believer

L is 32 years old. She is a law student and is blind. She works with an organization that helps the blind, and she reads stories from the Bible to the group. L asks for prayers because in her society people don’t value the blind, and she is having trouble finding a place to live and work. She feels she isn’t competent to work at an office or to teach. She often asks, “Why did God create me without ability to see?” Even though she hasn’t found her place in society, she prays that God will give her a place. Pray that God will help L grow in her new faith and share with her group. Pray that they will find their identify in Christ.

Prayer for Boldness

For we are slaves. Yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, but has extended to us his steadfast love before the kings of Persia, to grant us some reviving to set up the house of our God, to repair its ruins, and to give us protection in Judea and Jerusalem.” (Ezra 9:9 ESV).

Lord Jesus, would you affirm in your followers in Tunisia their identities as slaves – slaves to you, their good Master – no matter how countercultural and provocative this identity may be. May they say with the people of God, “we are slaves, but our God has not forsaken us in our slavery.” (Ezra 9:9).

Pray for a Segment of Society

Unemployed men- Mahmoud rolled his eyes and put down his laptop. His mother beckoned cheerfully at his bedroom door, wanting him to come and greet some relatives or friends or who-knows-who this time. “Just great,” he scoffed to himself, “I can hardly wait for them to meet this unmarried, nearly-40-year-old financial planner living at his mother’s apartment.” Mahmoud wondered how he could escape. There was always the cafe down the street and heaven knew it was always overflowing with every other hollow-eyed, unemployed neighbourhood male stretching that cheap espresso for hours—either staring numbly at a glowing rectangle if the day had been particularly depressing, or playing a checkers or card game if they had even an ounce of energy with which to engage those nearby. It had been a while since the Islamists had been through, he mused, looking to leverage their purposelessness for political gain. There was once a man who announced to his cafe buddies that he was going to kill himself. They barely looked up from their violent video games long enough to acknowledge what he’d said. Suicide can sometimes feel like the only escape for men like Mahmoud who long to contribute and live a life of purpose and meaning. Pray that the Lord would open up employment opportunities for the skilled and unskilled men of this country, that leaders would seek the interest of others and work hard to create a stable economy. Pray too that as they wait, the Lord Jesus would meet them in that difficult space.
